Opinion | Trump is stuck in the past. Other GOP candidates offer conservatives a brighter future – By Ingrid Jacques (USA Today) / May 11, 2023
I don’t understand Republicans’ continued obsession with former President Donald Trump, but I’m hopeful for what a post-Trump future looks like for conservatives.
Donald Trump had his moment in the limelight during a CNN town hall Wednesday night, taking questions from New Hampshire Republican primary voters.
Trump is a quintessential entertainer, and he played to the crowd. What became clear right away, however, is that the former president remains mired in the past and is still obsessed with 2020 and what he continues to call a “rigged election.” He’s not sorry about what happened on Jan. 6, 2021. He’s also crude and called CNN’s Kaitlan Collins “nasty” simply for trying to do her job and ask tough questions (that he knew were coming).
When Trump actually addressed real issues, from inflation to the economy to the border crisis, he called out President Joe Biden and said he wanted to “straighten out” the country.
