Florida Officer Shows Lubricant K-Y Jelly To Man Sentenced For Shooting Him – By Gayathri Anuradha (ibtimes.com) / Dec 2 2017

A Florida police officer pulled out a tube of the lubricant K-Y jelly to taunt a man who was sentenced to a lifetime in prison for shooting at the police multiple times.

Kevin Rojas, 21, was sentenced to life behind bars Wednesday for attempted murder and possession of a weapon. The officer, who was not named because of his work as an undercover detective, waved the tube at the convict seemingly implying that Rojas would be raped while serving his sentence. “You are going to need a lot of this,” he said, according to The Florida Times-Union.

The Army veteran also called Rojas a “coward” and said the incident in which both he and his son were shot at had changed his life.

“I will take those bullets instead of a fellow officer and an innocent bystander,” the officer said. “When I brought the fight back to you, you ran like a coward.”

According to local channel WJXT, Rojas was found guilty by a jury of one count of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, one count of attempted manslaughter, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of grand theft auto and one count of fleeing or attempting to elude police.

On March 9, 2016, police revealed that Rojas had fought with his girlfriend when he grabbed a gun and fired it a few times. He even suggested the day may be his last one. He then left in his car and was driving erratically when he was pulled over by the detective who was taking his son to school.

After he was stopped, Rojas—who was 19-years-old at the time—got out of his vehicle and fired at the detective through the vehicle’s windshield. He was struck once in the head and in the hand and twice in the abdomen. However, the officer’s son who was sitting in the passenger was not hit.

The detective got out of the vehicle despite being shot and returned fire. However, Rojas had run off by the time. The police then arrested him after he stole a truck and was caught by the police after he barricaded himself in his home. Rojas was convicted in October and was told in Wednesday’s hearing that he would have to serve at least 25 years before being eligible for parole.

The Florida Times-Union also reported that the officer told the judge on Wednesday that Rojas was a menace to everyone. The convict declined to speak on his behalf and did not have any character witnesses at his hearing. He was represented by Jason Gropper and case was prosecuted by Bernie de la Rionda.

The detective replied with “No comment” when questioned about the lubricant tube after the 30-minute hearing presided over by Circuit Judge James Daniel.

The judge told Rojas that he struggled with the implication of what happened on that day nearly two years ago. And that he could not comprehend how Rojas could arrive at the decision to begin firing with the intent to kill someone.

As Daniel read out the sentence to a lifetime behind bars he said, “I’m pretty sure Mr. Rojas doesn’t understand what the rest of his life means.”

PB/TK – What the police officer did was nothing more then a citizen would say, however, there’s a lax in professionalism.
