    1215 Frederick II crowned King of the Romans (King of the Germans) in Aachen

    1298 Jews are massacred at Wurzburg Germany

    1637 King Charles of England hands over the American colony of Massachusetts to Sir Ferdinando Gorges, one of the founders of the Council of New England.

    1664 Wealthy, non-church members in Massachusetts are given the right to vote.

    1829 William A. Burt patents his “typographer,” an early typewriter.

    1840 Union Act passed by British Parliament, uniting Upper & Lower Canada

    1865 William Booth founds the Salvation Army.

    1995 In Alaska BP America has agreed to pay an additional $20 million in Back taxes to the state of Alaska , this is on top of an earlier settlement to the state in 1993 of $650 million.

    1995 Two astronomers, Alan Hale in New Mexico and Thomas Bopp in Arizona, almost simultaneously discover a comet.

    1997 Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic was sworn in as president of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

    2003 The Massachusetts attorney general report claims clergy members and others in the Boston Archdiocese possibly sexually abused more than 1,000 children over sixty years.

    2005 A number of bombs have been exploded in the Egyptian resort of Sharm al-Sheikh by Terrorist attacks. The latest figures indicate nearly 100 are dead including tourists staying at a Hotel that was targeted, and many more injured.
