Thief masquerading as FBI agent uses forged check to nab $16K diamond from Long Island jeweler – By Molly Crane-Newman (New York Daily News) / Nov 24 2019

A Brooklyn jewelry thief posing as an FBI agent used a fake cashier’s check to nab a diamond worth nearly $16,000, authorities said Sunday.

Wearing an FBI jacket, Michael Morgan, 51, of Crown Heights, presented a gold badge to employees at HL Gross & Bro. Jewelers in Garden City, LI, on Oct. 28, said local police.

Morgan told the jewelers he was looking for a loose diamond, and offered to buy one from the store that was valued at $15,987.43, cops said.

The con man then told jewelers he was going to pick up a cashier’s check to complete the purchase — and returned a short while later with what authorities later learned was a forged JP Morgan Chase cashier’s check, said police.

Morgan was busted Saturday, and charged with grand larceny, possession of a forged instrument and criminal impersonation, cops said.
