The relationship between President Trump and influential conservative news mogul Matt Drudge grew more sour over the weekend, leading to a rare public comment from Drudge.
On Saturday, President Trump retweeted a four-day old tweet from conservative writer Paul Sperry which called a Drudge Report headline about the coronavirus’ peak in the U.S. “disingenuous,” “sensationalist and misleading.”
In response, Trump said, “I gave up on Drudge (a really nice guy) long ago, as have many others. People are dropping off like flies!” His comment was a reference to conservative figures growing less popular, and Drudge losing web traffic, after breaking with Trump, and not the rising death toll in the U.S. from coronavirus.
Drudge responded to the tweet in a public statement to CNN and said his web traffic was not hurting despite apparently clashing with President Trump.
