Syria’s president is demanding the U.S. and its western allies to pull their troops out of the war-torn country.
Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad made the demand during an rare TV interview Thursday. He said Syria is moving closer to peace and ending the seven year long war.
Assad accused the U.S. and the European Union of interfering in the peace process, and contributing to the rise in terrorist activity.
The Syrian leader also suggested the end of the conflict is “self-evident” and could come to an resolution within the next year.
“With every move forward in the battlefield, with every victory, with every liberated area, we are moving closer to the end of the conflict and I always said without external interference it won’t take more than a year to settle the situation in Syria,” stated President Assad.
The Syrian president went on to say nobody ever wants to engage in war, but the only way to deal with terror groups like ISIS is to use extreme force.
