THE U.S. DEATH TOLL from the coronavirus is likely to be near 195,000 fatalities by Sept. 12, according to the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control.
The agency updated its ensemble death forecast on Friday to reflect that a range of about 187,000 to 205,000 total deaths is possible by mid-September. The current death toll stands at over 174,000, meaning up to roughly 30,000 more people could die over the next three weeks if the worst-case estimate plays out.
Arizona, Florida, Mississippi and South Carolina are likely to see a decrease in deaths per week, while Minnesota is predicted to see an increase, according to the agency.
