Classified Documents Found at Pence’s Indiana Home – By Claire Hansen (US News) / Jan 24, 2023
The documents were found in a search triggered by the recent discovery of classified materials at President Joe Biden’s home and former office.
Lawyers for former Vice President Mike Pence discovered classified documents at his home in Indiana last week and alerted federal authorities.
Pence’s lawyer, Greg Jacob, told the National Archives in a letter last week that the documents were “inadvertently” boxed and taken to Pence’s home as he was leaving office, and that the former vice president was “unaware” of the existence of the classified materials at his home.
Lawyers found the documents as part of a search triggered by the recent discovery of classified materials at the former office and home of President Joe Biden, according to Jacob, and Pence “immediately secured those documents in a locked safe pending further direction,” according to a copy of the letter obtained by Politico.
Justice Department officials traveled to Pence’s home and collected the documents last Thursday, while Pence was in Washington for the anti-abortion Right to Life march, according to a second letter from Jacob.
