The monthly reading showed little change in the attitude of consumers about the economy despite an uptick in prices. But it did show a small increase in inflation expectations.
Consumer attitudes about the economy showed little change in April, even as inflation expectations for the year ahead moved up, the University of Michigan said on Friday.
The university’s consumer sentiment index dipped to 77.9 from 79.4 in March but remains in a range that it has been in since the start of 2024.
The index measuring sentiment about the current state of the economy fell to 79.3 from 82.5 previously, while the future expectations index edged down slightly to 77 from 77.4 in March.
