Officials on Wednesday reported the second-highest daily increase in the state death toll ahead of a planned reopening this week.
The number of reported coronavirus deaths in Texas spiked Wednesday, just two days before many businesses in the state will be allowed to reopen their doors.
Officials reported 43 new deaths Wednesday, the second-highest daily increase in the state death toll since the start of the pandemic. The largest one-day jump in deaths came two weeks ago. Overall, 732 people have died.
Officials also reported 883 new coronavirus cases. Daily growth in confirmed cases has remained relatively stagnant over the last couple weeks and has not meaningfully declined. More than 27,000 residents have tested positive for the virus.
