The DHS extends work authorizations for almost a quarter million Salvadoran nationals employed in the U.S.
Friday’s announcement automatically renews the immigrant’s Temporary Protection Status for another six months, after it was supposed to end next week.
The program shelters foreign nationals for a limited amount of time, from natural disasters or violence wreaking havoc in their home country.
Protections for El Salvador are scheduled to end next fall, in response to the country’s recovery from a devastating earthquake.
The extension will help Salvadoran nationals keep steady work as they change their immigration status, or make arrangements to leave the U.S
