Dinesh D’Souza: Dems Push Back on Trump Just Like Lincoln -By Jason Devaney (newsmax.com) / June 12 2018
Democrats are rooting against President Donald Trump just as many did against former President Abraham Lincoln during the 1860s, filmmaker and conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza told Newsmax TV.
During an appearance on “America Talks Live,” D’Souza spoke about the political left’s pushback when it comes to what Trump accomplished at Tuesday’s Singapore summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
“Again, there is a remarkable similarity between now and the early Civil War period because even then, there was a kind of craziness running through the Democratic Party,” D’Souza said.
“By the way, not just the Democratic Party in the south that succeeded, but also the Democrats in the north. Lincoln called them ‘the fire in the rear’ for trying to undermine Lincoln from behind Union ranks. And this continued throughout the Civil War.”
D’Souza noted there was then, and there is now, an “irrationality, almost hysteria, on the part of the progressive left. Not just the Democrats, but the media, Hollywood, academia. In a way, that’s playing to Trump’s benefit because Trump is actually producing results on the domestic front, economically, and on the international stage.”
D’Souza’s new film, “Death of a Nation,” compares Trump to Lincoln and will debut in 1,000 theaters nationwide Aug. 3. A book by the same name will be available that week.
D’Souza is the recent recipient of a presidential pardon stemming from his 2014 conviction on federal campaign law violations. He served eight months in a halfway house and was sentenced to five years probation.
When asked how it felt to be free, D’Souza revealed his favorite part of the whole situation: “not only does it lift the felon label off of my back, but it’s a giant up yours to Obama,” he said.
