Former CIA Head Resigns From Harvard After It Hires Convicted Leaker Chelsea Manning – By Sam Dorman (ijr.com) / Sept 14 2017
Mike Morell, former acting director of the Central Intelligence Agency, announced Thursday he wouldn’t remain at the Harvard Belfer Center as a senior fellow after the university hired convicted spy and transgender advocate Chelsea Manning.
“I have an obligation in my conscience — and I believe to the country — to stand against any efforts to justify leaks of sensitive national security information,” Morrell said. According to Fox News, Morrell cited senior military leaders stating that Manning put U.S. soldiers’ lives “at risk.”

Prominent Harvard alumnus and Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol tweeted he wouldn’t attend certain Harvard events after it hired Manning: I’m loyal to Harvard, but I think I’ll forego IOP events this fall. (I’d feel the same way if Chelsea Manning were still Bradley Manning.)

Manning seemed pleased with Kristol’s decision and asked him to get former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer not to attend those events either: awesome ! can you ask @seanspicer to do the same ? #WeGotThis
Manning’s new job became possible after former President Barack Obama commuted the 35-year sentence that resulted after a court convicted Manning of espionage in 2013. The former intelligence analyst served seven years in prison after leaking classified information to WikiLeaks.
