An analysis of CDC data found that gun-related injuries rose to the leading cause of death in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.
Gun-related injuries became the leading cause of death among children and adolescents in 2020, a new analysis found.
The paper, published this week in the New England Journal of Medicine, analyzed Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, finding that firearm-related mortalities surpassed vehicle crashes as the leading cause of death among the age group.
Firearm-related deaths among those ages 1-19 rose nearly 30% from 2019 to 2020, the analysis says, more than doubling the increase observed in the general population.
