Hotel cancels gun conference after learning George Zimmerman was a planned speaker – By Orlando Sentinel Staff (The Sun-Sentinel) / Nov 5 2021
An Idaho hotel canceled a gun conference after learning George Zimmerman was a planned speaker, according to a news report.
“We recognize the immense pain that George Zimmerman has inflicted on many of our guests, team-members and community,” according to a statement by The Riverside Hotel’s ownership group, The Idaho Statesman reported. “With their respect and safety as our priority, we have canceled the event. We are unequivocally opposed to providing George Zimmerman a platform and he is not welcome at The Riverside Hotel.”
Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin, an unarmed Black 17-year-old, in 2012 in Sanford. He was acquitted of all charges in 2013.
The teen’s death gave rise to the Black Lives Matter movement.
