McMaster: Trump Admin Considering Listing North Korea as State Sponsor of Terror – By Sam Dorman (ijr.com) / Nov 2 2017

The North Korean regime may face further punishment as the United States, according to National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, considers designating the rogue nation as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Responding to a reporter’s question about applying that designation as a part of the U.S. approach to North Korea, McMaster said that was an option “under consideration.”

“The president’s cabinet is looking at this as part of the overall strategy on North Korea,” McMaster added.

McMaster justified that designation, in part, by citing the regime’s murder of the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“A regime who murders someone at a public airport, using nerve agent, and a despotic leader murders his brother in that matter — then that’s clearly an act of terrorism that fits in with a range of other actions,” McMaster said.

According to the State Department, North Korea would face additional sanctions, although it’s unclear whether the new restrictions would overlap with already-existing sanctions on the regime.

The United Nations already imposed multiple rounds of sanctions in an effort to deter the North Koreans’ nuclear program. In September, for example, the U.N. sanctioned the country’s textile exports and oil products.

Designating North Korea in such a way would likely satisfy Otto Warmbier’s family, who called for that designation after their son returned from North Korean captivity with significant brain damage. Warmbier died shortly after his return to the United States.

PB/TK – Here’s a great question: Why hasn’t North Korea been listed in the first place by Obama, Bush 43, Clinton, Bush 41, or even the “Great Reagan?!”
