KABUL, Afghanistan — At least 11 people, including four attackers, died and 24 were injured Wednesday when insurgents stormed the state broadcaster’s offices in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, officials said.
The attack began about 10:30 a.m. Two attackers wearing suicide vests blew themselves up at the entrance to the Jalalabad office of Radio Television Afghanistan, said Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar. Two other gunmen entered the office, which is located next to the governor’s compound, and opened fire.
Khogyani said five RTA staffers and two policemen were killed, in addition to the insurgents. Seven police officers were wounded in the ensuing firefight, which lasted several hours. Seventeen civilians were also wounded, though it was not immediately clear how many of those were RTA employees.
