Pair arrested in funeral home fraud, including man who posed as funeral director, mortician – By EmilyAnn Jackman (Pennlive) / Jan 29, 2024
Two people in Texas were arrested after more than 50 people came forward, accusing the pair of using a fraudulent Houston funeral home to carry out an elaborate scam.
They were able to pull it off by “forging beneficiaries’ signatures and stealing thousands” through “illicitly obtaining” the life insurance policies from the families of the ones who passed away, the Harris County’s constable’s office said in a Facebook post.
Javian Major has been charged with forgery while Sandy Broussard has been charged with theft.
The arrest of the pair came following an 8-month investigation by Precinct One and the Texas Rangers, who investigated the case after the Texas Funeral Service Commission received multiple complaints that Major and Broussard were operating without a funeral business license.
