Rand Paul assaulted at home in Kentucky – By Mandy Mayfield & Joel Gehrke (washingtonexaminer.com) / Nov 4 2017

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., was “blindsided” by an assailant at his home in Kentucky on Friday, his office announced.

“Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault,” communications director Kelsey Cooper told the Bowling Green Daily News on Saturday. “The assailant was arrested and it is now a matter for the police.”

State troopers arrested a 59-year-old man, Rene Bousher, on Friday after being called to the Kentucky Republican’s home on Friday afternoon. The alleged assailant faces a fourth-degree misdemeanor assault charge, which can be punished by up to a year in jail. He is being held at Warren County Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond.

The Kentucky State Police said that the officer who arrested Bousher, Trooper Bartley Weaver, is leading an investigation, which is ongoing. A court date has been scheduled for Nov. 9, according to the Warren County Regional Jail website.

The incident has drawn a federal attention. “FBI is involved making sure it wasn’t politically motivated,” a Kentucky State Police spokesman told WBKO, a local ABC affiliate that first reported the incident.

Paul wasn’t seriously hurt, however. “Senator Paul is fine,” Cooper said.

PB/TK – If this was a political stunt by the assailant, well he’s a complete jackass. At least Sen Paul is safe, yet I bet there will be another call for security details for all members of Congress as there was after the Scalise shooting.
