Trump mocks ABC for falsely saying Manafort pleaded guilty to 5 charges of manslaughter – By Stephanie Murray (politico.com) / June 20 2018
President Donald Trump on Wednesday mocked ABC News for mistakenly displaying an untrue headline stating former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
The president posted a screengrab of the erroneous chyron that read “Manafort pleads guilty to 5 charges of manslaughter,” as part of a fiery tweet alleging bias.
“Look what Fake ABC News put out. I guess they had it prepared from the 13 Angry Democrats leading the Witch Hunt! #StopTheBias,” Trump wrote.
Though the former Trump campaign chair is not caught up in a manslaughter case, the 69-year-old is in jail awaiting trial after being indicted in February on money laundering and federal conspiracy charges.
Manafort had been under house arrest until a federal judge revoked his bail earlier this month for allegedly attempting to influence two government witnesses.
ABC apologized for its error.
The White House, however, had its own snafu on Wednesday. Trump’s executive order to halt the separation of children from their families who illegally cross the border misspelled a key word: Separation. The order initially spelled the word “seperation.”
