Twitter Users Blame Ted Cruz for Jinxing Texas Tech With Last-Second National Championship Selfie – By Louie Gasper (IJ Review) / April 9 2019

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is taking heat on Twitter over claims he jinxed the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who lost to the University of Virginia Cavaliers in the NCAA national championship game on Monday.

The senator blasted his support for the Red Raiders throughout the game, posting pictures of himself in the arena. However, some fans hypothesized that Cruz’s posts of the team’s narrow lead in the final seconds of the game may have caused them to lose.

“1:08 to go. ONE point game. GO RED RAIDERS!!!!!” he tweeted at that point in the game, making the school’s “Guns Up” hand gesture in the picture.

As the game went into the final seconds, Cruz decided to show his support one more time by posting a picture of himself smiling.

“35 seconds. ONE point LEAD. GO RED RAIDERS!!!” he tweeted as he bragged that the Texas team has the “#1 Defense.”

When Virginia ultimately defeated Texas Tech 85-77 in overtime, Cruz expressed his disappointment.

“A heartbreaking loss, but an AMAZING game,” he tweeted. “Congrats to [Texas Tech men’s basketball] for a history-making season. Overtime in the National Championship — all of Texas is proud of you.”

However, many people on the internet were not proud of Cruz, calling him “the kiss of death” and claiming his “cursed” last-minute picture is the reason why the Red Raiders lost the game.

Cruz is frequently labeled as an unlikable figure by critics, and he was called out last week by actor Timothy Simons of HBO’s “Veep,” who shared that his character is based on the “charmless,” “graceless,” and “universally disliked” senator.
