United Steelworkers bolsters Biden’s promises to create jobs and tackle climate – By Daniel Moore (Post-Gazette) / Aug 23 2021
Politicians, workers, CEOs and labor leaders took turns at the outdoor podium for thunderous speeches that reverberated off the steel-webbed facade of the United Steelworkers headquarters in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Between the speeches, organizers repeated the same rallying cry: “Who supplies America?” The rejoinder from several dozen union members and their supporters gathered in the courtyard: “We Supply America!”
The rally, a stop on a five-state bus tour last week, was part of a broader push this month by the Pittsburgh-based labor union to press Congress to pass a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill when it reconvenes in September.
That legislation has endured a seemingly endless roller coaster of negotiations among a core group of senators and President Joe Biden. It now rests with the U.S. House.
