What’s in the new stimulus bill? $300 weekly unemployment bonus, $600 checks, more – By Clifford Colby, Jessica Dolcourt (CNET) / Dec 17 2020
The final version of a $900 billion stimulus bill will reportedly include a second stimulus payment. Here’s what else we think is inside.
The latest variation of the new stimulus package could exit the negotiation phase and be brought to a vote as soon as this week or weekend. The final COVID-relief bill could be worth $900 billion and contain a second stimulus check of $600 or $700 apiece, according to multiple reports.
That’s a big change from where the package has stood in the last two weeks, with proposals careening from a $748 billion compromise deal with no second stimulus check to a $918 billion White House offer that included $600 direct payments, but cut weekly unemployment insurance. The new stimulus plan would include $300 weekly federal unemployment checks for out-of-work Americans and comes days before protections against evictions expire.
How is this new bill different from what came before? Here’s what we know at the moment, including how this new bill is different from the $908 billion package that began the week and which funding priorities would be put on hold until 2021. We recently updated this story with new information.
