White House Official Recommends 2nd Booster Shot for Those Over 60, But Over 50 a ‘Closer Call’ – By Cecelia Smith-Schoenwalder (US News) / April 18, 2022
The comments from White House COVID-19 response coordinator Ashish Jha come after the FDA authorized a fourth coronavirus shot in Americans ages 50 and older.
The White House COVID-19 response coordinator recommended on Sunday that Americans over 60 get a second coronavirus booster shot but noted that the situation is more complicated for younger people.
Ashish Jha told “Fox News Sunday” that “the data out of Israel is pretty compelling for people over 60.” But for the 50-59 age range, he said the decision should be dependent on their “risk profile” and should be made after consulting with a doctor.
“It’s much more of a closer call,” he said. “But for people over 60, I think people should be getting that second booster.”
Jha’s comments come after the Food and Drug Administration last month authorized a second coronavirus booster shot for Americans ages 50 and older at least four months after their third dose, citing waning protection from previous shots.
