Nearly 15,000 immigrants became naturalized citizens Tuesday as part of Fourth of July naturalization ceremonies across the country.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reported Tuesday that almost 15,000 new citizens celebrated at 65 events across the United States this year, posting photos of celebrations around the country on the agency’s Twitter account.
The number of new citizens on July 4th this year more than doubles the number who became naturalized citizens this same day last year. In 2016, USCIS reported that just 7,000 new citizens became naturalized on July 4 last year, although the number of celebrations was higher at 100.
