A 26-year-old man fatally wounded Saturday in an accidental shooting south of Bellevue has been identified.
Eric G. Niedbalski of Bellevue died from a single gunshot wound to the upper torso, said Capt. Brian Richards of the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office. Niedbalski was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center, where he died.
Two additional males, both in their mid-20s, were present the time of the shooting, Richards said. Their names have not been released pending further investigation.
“One of the (other two men) was unloading the gun to clean it when it went off,” Richards said. “These three guys grew up together and there is no sign that this was anything but an accident at this time.”
One of the men called 911 to report the shooting at 4:55 p.m. Paramedics responded to Tregaron Oaks Apartments at 1719 Scarborough Drive and performed CPR on Niedbalski en route to the hospital.
