No charges filed against Ohio GOP lawmaker after altercation with LGBTQ protester – By Anna Staver (The Columbus Dispatch) / June 27, 2023
No charges are being filed against Ohio state Rep. Scott Wiggam, R-Wooster, or the protester involved in an altercation outside the statehouse earlier this month.
Chris Conomy filed a police report on June 13, alleging the Wayne County Republican purposely shoved him while he was outside the statehouse protesting a vote on House Bill 68, which would ban Ohio doctors from prescribing hormones and puberty blockers to transgender minors.
The incident was caught on camera, but both men told Ohio State Highway Patrol the other was the aggressor.
“Based upon the totality of the circumstances and a thorough review of all available evidence, there is insufficient evidence to support probable cause of the allegation of assault (against Wiggam),” according to OSP’s report. “In addition, the offense of disorderly conduct will not be pursued further for either of the parties involved due to the cross-filing of charges being uncommon practice by the Columbus City Attorney’s Office.”
