Coming up short: JobsOhio sues Columbus company Olive for missing mark on job creation – By Mark Williams (Columbus Dispatch) / Aug 17, 2023
JobsOhio has taken the unusual step of suing a company for not creating as many jobs as it promised in return for aid from the state’s private economic development arm.
JobsOhio sued health technology company Olive this month in Franklin County Common Pleas Court, demanding $598,420, plus interest.
In 2020, JobsOhio and Olive struck a deal in which JobsOhio agreed to provide talent acquisition services totaling $645,000 to Olive, according to the lawsuit. In return, Olive promised to create 100 jobs with an annual payroll of $10 million and retain 75 other jobs with a payroll of $6.4 million.
As of Dec. 31, 2021, Olive had created 65 jobs, and the payroll for the new jobs totaled $9.9 million, according to the lawsuit.
