Sen. Dianne Feinstein introducing bill to ban bump fire stocks – Y Graham Rayman (mercurynews.com) / Oct 4 2017

Senate majority leader Dianne Feinstein said Wednesday she is introducing legislation to ban bump fire stocks in the wake of the Las Vegas massacre.

Stephen Paddock had 12 of the devices on hand when he opened fire on 22,000 concertgoers at a country music festival on the famed Vegas strip Sunday night.

In all, at least 58 people died. A staggering 527 were injured — many shot, some hit by shrapnel and others trampled in the chaos.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms approved the use and sale of bump fire stocks in 2010. The agency has yet to issue any comment about that decision since the massacre.

The devices allow a shooter to turn a semiautomatic rifle into a nearly fully automatic weapon.

Feinstein’s bill would also ban trigger cranks and other similar gadgets.

She proposed similar restrictions on the devices in 2013 after the Sandy Hook Elementary murders. That effort was beaten back in the Senate by a vote of 60-40.

PB/TK – Every TV reporter talks about Vegas shooter Paddock’s use of a bump fire stock in casual tone, as if it’s a natural device to own. I question why such a device is even on the market when there’s already limits/laws on automatic weapons and why does anyone need it. Sorry, any answer that begins or uses “because the 2nd Amendment…” becomes invalid, when you’re changing the mechanics to circumvent law.
