WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump is considering U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., as a potential running mate in his bid for a second White House term.
The New York Times reported Friday that Trump is thinking about picking Cotton, citing the senator’s skills as a communicator in media appearances, Cotton’s experience in the U.S. Army and his Harvard College education as positive attributes.
Other contenders for the position, according to the Times, include fellow senators Marco Rubio of Florida, Tim Scott of South Carolina and JD Vance of Ohio as well as North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.
Cotton won a second Senate term in 2020 and does not face reelection until the 2026 election cycle. He weighed a possible White House run before opting against such a move in November 2022.
