Defense Secy Mattis Asks Congress For New Round of Military Base Closures – By OAN Newsroom (oann.com) / Oct 18 2017
Defense Secretary James Mattis is calling for a new round of foreign and domestic military base closures.
In a letter to Congress, Mattis said 19 percent of DOD properties around the world are unnecessary due to advances in technology.
He added, keeping un-needed facilities open hampers military readiness.
Previous consolidation efforts have saved the Pentagon more than one billion dollars in excess costs.
House Armed Services Committee leaders have expressed support for a new round of closures starting in 2021.

PB/TK – It’s not a shrinking of the Military especially on consideration of foreign military bases because new ones are opening. However the local base closures are always the hardest to swallow as many communities depend on those bases in local economics.
