Trump Tower In Chicago Declared Safe After Bomb Threat, Police Investigation Ongoing – By Shreesha Ghosh (ibtimes.com) / Feb 22 2018

The Chicago Police Department said it is investigating a “threatening message” made to the Trump Tower in Chicago on Wednesday.

Authorities responded to the building in the 400 block of North Wabash Avenue after a threat was made from a location near the Trump Tower around 5 p.m. EST on Wednesday, “via electronic means,” the police confirmed.

“A complimentary iPad was given to a hotel guest. That guest wrote down a threatening message to the hotel which was discovered when the iPad was returned upon checkout,” a Chicago Police Department officer told the Hollywood Reporter.

No other details regarding the incident were given out. However, the area was later said to be safe and clear by officers. No one was taken into custody and a motive behind the incident has not yet been determined.

The Trump International Hotel and Tower, also known as Trump Tower Chicago and Trump Tower, is 98-storey condo-hotel in downtown Chicago. The building, named after businessman and current President Donald Trump, was designed by architect Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. It was completed in 2009 and was developed by the president’s Trump Organization.

Known to be the fourth tallest building in the United States, Trump International Hotel and Tower Chicago served as the inspiration for Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, and it is said to have become one of the best hotels in downtown Chicago. It has a two-Michelin star restaurant called “Sixteen,” and an outdoor lounge called “The Terrace,” where one can enjoy the view of Navy Pier’s weekly fireworks show.

The Chicago tower is not the first of Trump’s properties to receive a bomb threat, as his New York City tower also received numerous threats following his election as the 45th President of the United States.

Trump’s name was also stripped off three of his luxury apartment buildings after hundreds of its tenants signed a petition claiming they were embarrassed to live in a place associated with the president.

In March last year, a man called a bar inside Trump Tower and claimed to be at the establishment with a bomb, police sources said.

The unidentified man called a bartender at Trump Bar and made several bizarre statements like, “Donald Trump is my daddy,” and “my mom won’t let me be gay,” according to sources.

He then reportedly told the bartender: “I’m in the bar by myself wearing all black and I may have a bomb with me.”

No customers were in the bar at the time. The bartender called police and reported the incident. The area was determined to be safe after police conducted a sweep of the ground floor with a K-9 unit.

In another similar incident, in February 2017, police rushed to president Trump’s International Hotel and Tower in Chicago after a “disturbance call” was made from the building.

Officers however did not confirm that a bomb threat was made. However, a resident of the 401 North Wabash Avenue tower reported a man was screaming outside and threatened to detonate a bomb.
