Sixty-two counselors, advisors, special education administrators and teachers are expected to lose their jobs when Hoosier Academies Virtual School closes this summer.
According to a WARN notice received Thursday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the affected Hoosier Academy employees will be terminated July 15.
The notice explains that Hoosier Academy will continue to operatie Hoosier Academies Indianapolis and the Insight School of Indiana.

“However, the cessation of operations for the Virtual School nessistastes a significant reduction in the size of Hoosier Academy’s staff,” said the WARN notice. “The staff reductions are expected to be permanent. The affected employees are not represented by a union, and there are no bumping rights.”
It was announced in September 2017 that the school, which serves about 1,750 students across the state, would shutter at the end of the 2017-2018 school year.
That was when the Hoosier Academies Network board voted not to renew the virtual school’s charter. The charter expires in June, effectively closing the school after years of failing grades on the state’s accountability system. The virtual school received an F on state letter grades every year since 2010 — six straight years.
All three of the Hoosier Academies Network schools are chartered through Ball State University.
Hoosier Academies’ two other schools are not up for renewal this year. Insight is another entirely online school, designed to function more like an alternative school. Hoosier Academies Indianapolis is a blended learning program, where some schooling is done online and some done in more traditional classroom settings.
