New House Speaker Nancy Pelosi invites President Trump to State of the Union – By Kate Feldman (nydailynes.com) / Jan 3 2019
With the federal government in flux, Nancy Pelosi and President Trump have a date.
Pelosi, newly elected as Speaker of the House, invited Trump to deliver the annual State of the Union address on Jan. 29.
“The Constitution established the legislative, executive and judicial branches as co-equal branches of government, to be a check and balance on each other. The Constitution also calls for the President to ‘from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union,'” Pelosi wrote in her letter to the President.
If Trump accepts the invitation, it will be his first address to the newly Democratic House after two years of a GOP-run Congress.
Still almost a month away, it’s uncertain if the government shutdown will be over by late January, with Trump refusing to sign any budget without full funding for his border wall.
