It turns out it’s not as easy as scribbling a name on a ballot.
AUSTIN — The Democratic presidential primary is still pretty crowded. But if you don’t want to vote for any of the remaining candidates, can you write in one?
That’s what one of our readers asked Curious Texas: “What’s the process for a Texas [voter] to write in a name for president? Is it different between the Democratic or Republican primaries?”
It’s not as easy as adding a name to the ballot. There are rules for how people become write-in candidates.
In Texas primaries, there are no write-ins for any public office seats, though parties can opt to have write-in candidates for their party offices.
