Nessel to cops: Don’t be too hard on businesses that can’t find masks for workers – By Georgea Kovanis (Detroit Free Press) / April 26 2020
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s most recent executive order says that, starting Monday, employers must provide face masks to employees who work onsite.
But some businesses have said they are having difficulty finding appropriate face coverings; the demand is high and the supply is low.
As a result, state Attorney General Dana Nessel is urging law enforcement officers to take that into consideration the good faith efforts of businesses that have tried but been unable to procure masks before deciding to pursue criminal action against the businesses.
“While businesses work diligently to find appropriate face coverings to meet the requirements of the executive order, I urge employees that can safely do so to use their own face coverings as protection until businesses provide face coverings,” Nessel said in a news release Sunday.
“The Governor’s order requires that each of us – businesses and employees – work together to safely and successfully reopen our economy,” she added.
