Germany is working to combat a coronavirus outbreak at a meat processing plant where more than 600 employees tested positive for the virus.
In the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, 650 workers at a meat processing facility have been confirmed to have the coronavirus. Toennies, the company that owns the plant, shut it down on Wednesday.
Gereon Schulze Althoff, director of quality management and veterinary services at Toennies, said the facility employed many foreign workers who had recently traveled and could have potentially been infected, CNN reported.
While he said the health and welfare of the workers is a top priority for the company, he acknowledged that it is not easy maintaining social distancing while in the facility.
