McConnell says he would ‘absolutely’ support Trump if ex-president is GOP nominee in 2024 – By Emma Austin (Louisville Courier Journal) / Feb 25 2021
If former President Donald Trump is the Republican Party’s nominee for the 2024 presidential election, he’s already guaranteed support from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
In case anyone had any questions about where the Kentucky senator stands in his alliance with Trump after he voted to acquit the former president of inciting an insurrection on Jan. 6, McConnell cleared it up on Fox News Thursday evening, saying he would “absolutely” support Trump if he is the GOP’s nominee in the next election.
McConnell told “Special Report” host Bret Baier during an interview Thursday evening he already knew of multiple senators planning a 2024 presidential run. Baier followed up by asking the Kentucky Republican if he’d support Trump if he were the party’s nominee.
“The nominee of the party? Absolutely,” McConnell responded.
After Mitch McConnell said a number of senators are likely to run in 2024, @BretBaier asked what he would do if Trump was the nominee: "If the President was the party's nominee [in 2024], would you support him?"
McConnell replied w/this: "The nominee of the party? Absolutely." pic.twitter.com/FZb9kXSiiZ
