Washington Nationals Evacuate Stadium After Shooting Outside Ballpark – By Jacob M. Schlesinger (The Wall Street Journal) / July 18 2021
WASHINGTON—The Washington Nationals baseball team evacuated their stadium midway through their game Saturday night, after a shooting was reported just outside the ballpark.
Washington Metropolitan Police said four people were wounded in the incident, which didn’t appear to be related to the game.
The shooting occurred during the sixth inning of the game against the San Diego Padres, which was suspended shortly afterward.
“Loud noises were heard toward the third-base side of the ballpark, and a commotion broke out inside the stadium as fans ran through the concourse and some onto the field,” the Nationals said in a description posted on the team website. Some fans took shelter on the floor between seats, and others gathered in the dugouts of the two teams.
