The latest reading on consumer attitudes spells trouble for Joe Biden and his economic agenda.
President Joe Biden has a big problem on his hands as he struggles to enact an ambitious economic and social agenda – and it’s not Joe Manchin or Kyrsten Sinema.
Biden is facing growing disillusionment among Americans that he can fix the problems brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, even as the virus shows itself to be remarkably resilient nearly two years after it first surfaced in Wuhan, China.
Shortly after taking office, Biden enjoyed a honeymoon as vaccine distribution took off and the talk was of a “return to normal.” That has now evaporated, with Biden’s approval ratings slumping and various measures of consumer attitudes reaching levels not seen since the early days of the pandemic.
The latest evidence of declining support for the president came Thursday, with the release of the CNBC All-America Economic Survey of 800 people conducted from October 14-17.
