Army Veteran Arrested, Accused of Plotting California Terror Attack – By Jason Devaney (Newsmax) / April 29 2019
Authorities in California have arrested a U.S. military veteran after they said he made plans to launch a terror attack involving several targets.
The man, identified as 26-year-old Mark Stevens Domingo, lives in Reseda, California and is an Army veteran who converted to Islam. He was arrested Friday night and told investigators his plot was in response to the recent attacks on two mosques in New Zealand.
The Los Angeles Times first reported the story.
Domingo was snared in a sting operation in which an undercover law enforcement officer sold him what he thought was a bomb. The device was actually inert.
“After considering various attacks — including targeting Jews, churches, and police officers — Domingo decided to detonate an IED at a rally scheduled to take place in Long Beach this past weekend,” the affidavit reads. “As part of the plot, Domingo asked his confederate — who actually was cooperating with the FBI as part of the investigation — to find a bomb-maker, and Domingo last week purchased several hundred nails to be used as shrapnel inside the IED.
“Domingo said he specifically bought three-inch nails because they would be long enough to penetrate the human body and puncture internal organs.”
The Times reported that Domingo pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group and wrote online, “America needs another Vegas event … [to] give them a taste of the terror they gladly spread all over the world.”
That comment was a reference to the 2017 shooting massacre in Las Vegas that left 58 concertgoers dead.
