Aurora police officer quits days after release of video showing him beating a man with a pistol during an arrest – By Olivia Prentzel (Colorado Sun) / July 29 2021
An investigation will still be conducted into John Haubert’s use of force after body-camera footage showed him beating a man with a pistol 13 times.
An Aurora police officer who is facing assault charges after body-worn camera footage captured him striking a man with a pistol 13 times has quit.
John Haubert submitted his letter of resignation Wednesday, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.
Haubert was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of attempted first-degree assault, second-degree assault and menacing, days after he struck Kyle Maurice Vinson with his pistol, choked him and threatened to kill him, while responding to a trespassing call on July 23.
In body-worn camera footage released from the department, Vinson is heard crying: “you’re killing me,” before Haubert grabs him by the throat and chokes him until he has trouble breathing. Vinson, 29, is not seen making any threats toward Haubert.
