Authorities investigate package containing ‘white powder’ sent to home of Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul – By The Associated Press (Pennlive) / May 24 2021
Capitol Hill police and the FBI are investigating a package containing white powder that arrived at the home of Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) from an anonymous sender on Monday.
“I take these threats immensely seriously,” Paul tweeted in a short statement, adding that he has been “a repeated target of violence.”
The package was in a large envelope and had white powder inside, Paul senior advisor Sergio Gor told Politico, which first reported the package.
The FBI’s Louisville office “is working with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office by providing forensic and technical support for this investigation,” agency spokesman Tim Beam told The Courier Journal of Louisville.
Paul was the first U.S. senator to be diagnosed with COVID-19 and has been criticized over the course of the pandemic for comments on vaccines, masks and the origin of the virus, The Courier Journal noted.
