Biden to Employers: ‘Do the Right Thing’ After Supreme Court Blocks Vaccine Mandate – By Kaia Hubbard (US News) / January 13, 2022
Biden asked states and employers to ‘do the right thing’ and impose vaccine requirements after the Supreme Court blocked his administration’s controversial mandate.
President Joe Biden deferred to employers Thursday, asking them to “do the right thing” after the Supreme Court blocked enforcement of his administration’s vaccine-or-test mandate that had gone into effect days earlier.
“I am disappointed that the Supreme Court has chosen to block common-sense life-saving requirements for employees at large businesses that were grounded squarely in both science and the law,” Biden said in a statement. “This emergency standard allowed employers to require vaccinations or to permit workers to refuse to be vaccinated, so long as they were tested once a week and wore a mask at work: a very modest burden.”
The high court on Thursday in a 6-3 vote blocked the Biden administration from enforcing its vaccine-or-test rule for large private employers, which applied to some 84 million workers and would have required employers with more than 100 workers to mandate vaccination or face weekly testing.
