CNN’s Chris Cuomo kicked off Monday morning with a “dose of facts,” as he called out the White House for pushing skewed or one-sided numbers as proof that the economy is doing well under President Donald Trump.
He began the segment by showing a clip of White House Director of Legislative Affairs Marc Short claiming the president has proven his doubters wrong by having a fiscally stellar first year in office.
Cuomo wasn’t buying Short’s argument though, explaining his problem with it:
“Let’s take it point by point. The economy added 2 million jobs in 2017. Is that true? Yes. But that’s not a great number. In fact, 2017 sticks out as a low point. Take a look at the facts. 2014, 3 million jobs. 2015, 2.7 million jobs. 2016, 2.2 million jobs. Notice how they’re going down? … You can’t sell 2017’s performance as anything earth shattering. GDP growth, 3 percent. This is not true. How do we know that? The Bureau of Economic Analysis. [It’s actually] 2.3 percent. How does that line up? Average. 2017, 11th in GDP growth out of the past 20 years.”
The CNN host went on to point out how the pay increases and bonuses given out after the GOP tax bill passed are deceptive as well, given that some companies laid off thousands of workers and others had preexisting agreements with employees about the bonuses.
He also addressed Trump’s hypocrisy on the unemployment rate, given that the current president continually knocked the Obama administration over “phony” low unemployment numbers.
“Every White House for as long as we can remember says we’re responsible for everything that we get,” said Cuomo. “But when Obama did that, Trump said the numbers were phony. Now he is using the same numbers, making the case same.”

PB/TK – Gotta love the war between POTUS Donnie and CNN. The more he mocks them the more airtime they give him. I don’t care who’s sitting in the Oval Office, there’s always going to be unemployment, it’s how YOU interrupt the numbers that are being told by the media personality is up to you, but for me as long as there’s job creation be it low or high number then that means someone’s getting a paycheck.
