Democrats Aim to Force Hand of Attorney General – By Newser Staff (Newser) / April 1 2019
Panel readies subpoena for the full Mueller report, without redactions
(Newser) – The attorney general plans to give Congress the full Mueller report, with redactions, in the next two weeks. Not good enough, House Democrats said Monday. They want it now, without any redactions. The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said the panel will vote Wednesday to subpoena the report from AG William Barr, reports the Washington Post. The vote will come one day after the deadline Democrats originally set for the report’s release. The panel also plans to subpoena former Trump aides Steve Bannon, Hope Hicks, and Reince Priebus, as well as attorneys Donald McGahn and Ann Donaldson, per the AP.
“As I have made clear, Congress requires the full and complete Special Counsel report, without redactions, as well as access to the underlying evidence,” said the panel’s chairman, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, in a statement. “The full and complete report must be released to Congress without delay.” Robert Mueller’s report to the attorney general exceeded 300 pages, and Barr summed it up in four pages in his own report to Congress. Democrats say they want to know what details he left out. (Read more Mueller report stories: http://www.newser.com/tag/75693/1/mueller-report.html.)
