    In the past, Columbus police and other law enforcement agencies in central Ohio may have been waiting months to find out if shell casings or other firearm evidence from a crime scene is connected to other crimes.

    Now, they’re waiting about an hour.

    The acceleration in evidence being processed is just one of the advantages of the newly formed Central Ohio Gun Intelligence Center, or CGIC, that was announced Tuesday afternoon by Gov. Mike DeWine, Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and others.

    The center, which is housed in the Ohio Department of Public Safety headquarters in Columbus, has dedicated full-time intelligence analysts, detectives and others working to analyze ballistic evidence to identify perpetrators and patterns of gun violence.
