The hearing with FBI agent Peter Strzok went completely off the rails when Rep. Louie Gohmert said that Strzok easily looked into his wife’s eyes and lied about his affair.
“He had 500 pages of bias that he gave us and he threw a bone to the Democrats and he said well, we can’t find bias,” Gohmert said. “The way you do, and saying what you did, you’d have been better off, coming in here and saying, ‘That was my bias’ and you kind of get around that when you say everybody has got political views. Those are called biases and we all have them. You have come in here and said, ‘I have no bias.’ I watched you in the private testimony you gave and I told some of the other guys, ‘he’s really good. He’s lying and we know he’s lying and he can probably pass the polygraph.’”
Rep. James Langevin (D-RI) spoke up saying that Gohmert was out of order, saying that the member was lying under oath and he had no evidence of it.
“Now the disgrace — and what this man has done,” Gohmert began speaking again while the chair admonished him. “There is a disgrace and it won’t be recaptured any time soon because of the damages that you have done. I have talked to FBI around the country, you have embarrassed them and yourself and I can’t help but wonder when I see you looking there with a little smirk, how many times did you look so innocent in to your wife’s eyes and lie to her.”
“Mr. chairman, it is outrageous!” Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee could be heard saying.
“Shame on you!” another said.
“Mr. Chairman, this is intolerable harassment of the witness!” another could be heard saying.
“What’s wrong with that? Do you need your medication?” asked Jackson Lee.
Strzok responded to Gohmert’s commentary saying that bringing up his affair says more about Gohmert than it does about him.
