DOJ sues Texas and Gov. Abbott over use of buoys in Rio Grande to stop migrants – By Luke Barr and Alexander Mallin (ABC News) / July 24, 2023

“Texas will see you in court, Mr. President,” the governor wrote.

The Department of Justice on Monday sued the state of Texas and Gov. Greg Abbott over a new floating barrier of buoys in the Rio Grande River intended to keep migrants from crossing into the U.S.

The DOJ on Friday had warned Abbott about his administration’s use of the ballards.

“The State of Texas’s actions violate federal law, raise humanitarian concerns, present serious risks to public safety and the environment, and may interfere with the federal government’s ability to carry out its official duties,” read the letter, obtained by ABC News.

Last week, Abbott had the ballards installed in the river in an effort to deter migrants from crossing.
