East Rochester man arrested after video captures him spraying black teen with hose, claiming to be in KKK – By Tim Balk (New York Daily News) / Aug 21 2019
An East Rochester man captured on video spraying a black teenager with a garden hose and claiming membership in the KKK during a dispute outside his home was arraigned and charged with second-degree harassment Wednesday, police said.
Glen Nicodemus, 59, shouted, “I’m a Ku Klux Klan member,” at the 14-year-old during the Aug. 14 altercation, according to video subsequently posted on social media by the boy’s mother, Christina Poles.
“The video looks like something out of the 1960s,” Poles told the Daily News.
The town of East Rochester is located in the city of Rochester in Monroe County in Western New York.
East Rochester police investigated the incident and determined that it did not raise to the level of a hate crime after consultation with the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office and the State Police Hate Crimes Unit, town police chief Steve Clancy said.

“Nicodemus was released on his own recognizance and will report to pre-trial release under supervision,” Clancy said in a news release emailed to the Daily News. “The judge also issued an order of protection for the victim.”
Poles told The News she didn’t initially recognize the significance of the interaction, saying that her son only mentioned it fleetingly after the fact.
She said she only recognized the gravity of the incident later, when another parent sent her the clip. In the video, Nicodemus can be seen spraying the teen as he walked away from the home, located near Edmund Lyon Park in the Rochester suburb.
Poles said the man had already sprayed her son once before the video started. She added that the initial altercation started when the man was taking pictures of the kids in the park. Poles said she wasn’t sure she would have kept the same composure as her son in the same situation.
The cops said they mediated an initial dispute in front of the home at the time, before the second incident captured on video.
A person at Nicodemus’ residence said the family was not speaking to reporters when reached by phone Wednesday night.
